Location

Bouldin is a highly diverse neighborhood with undeniable historic charm. Bordered by South Congress to the east, Barton Springs to the north, and West Oltorf to the south. The neighborhood includes two major commercial areas, South Congress and South First. Bouldin has been described as “a slice of suburbia in the middle of the action”.
 

History

Bouldin is one of Austin’s oldest neighborhoods, carved out of a parcel deeded to Isaac Decker in 1735. The neighborhood had its highest periods of growth and creation in the 1920s and 1930s. Bouldin has several historical sites, including the Victorian mansion Green Pastures and the St Anne African Methodist Episcopal Church.
 

Architecture

The diversity of the people within created a neighborhood that displays its people, different cultures, and backgrounds through its architecture and blended styles, which all make this neighborhood uniquely Austin. The neighborhood is laid back and locals say this particular area boasts the famous phrase “Keep Austin Weird”.
 

Recreation

The Bouldin neighborhood offers amazing Austin food staples, greenbelts, food truck parks, The Long Center of Arts, tattoo parlors, art galleries, Mexican bakeries, and a waterfront park. An integral part of the neighborhood is the Austin School for the Deaf. The school was created in the 19th century and underwent a massive expansion and renovation in the early 1990s.
