Location

Located in downtown Austin, Clarksville is bordered by the trendy strip on Lamar Boulevard as well as Treaty Oak, the neighborhood is close to popular Lady Bird Lake. Though Clarksville is geographically part of Austin's Old West Austin Historic Neighborhood, it is a different neighborhood from its two counterparts, Tarrytown and Old Enfield. 

History

The neighborhood was established by freed slaves in the 1870s by freedman Charles Clark. It is now the oldest surviving freedman's town. The neighborhood has been recognized because of its unique and valuable history. Clarksville is known as a small historic district downtown.

Architecture

Many European immigrants settled in the neighborhood in the early 1990s. It is known for its bungalow-style home and friendly neighbors that are still supporting its old-town feel and businesses. 

Recreation

Home to the vibrant and famous Graffiti Park, walkable restaurants, shopping, and bars. This neighborhood is one of the oldest and most established neighborhoods in Austin. Clarksville still has a few of its originally established businesses, a nursery, and a pharmacy that its local residents frequently visit.
